Your chance to stock up on hygge home essentials and unique holiday gifts is coming soon! Embla’s unique collection of handcrafted jewellery, bags and soap along with Nordic vintage treasures will be available at two holiday markets.
Back by popular demand, Embla will offer a collection of handmade soap featuring olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter and essential oils. The Natura collection is focused on the natural beauty of the Nordic countries. Fjall (“mountain”) features the spicy scent of star anise, Fjord (“sea”) comes with a charcoal swirl, Kaiku (“birch”) contains woodsy essential oils and Blommor (“flowers”) features natural rose accented with black pepper and cardamom. We don’t sell soap in the online store so come out in person to find your favourite one!

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Midsummer Festival over the weekend. We had record crowds on Saturday and Embla Nordic Inspirations Ltd. welcomed many people to our table in the Norway tent. If you missed the festival or want to order more products then just contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to inquire. Congratulations to our draw prize winner, Marianne Hansen of Deep Cove. Marianne is enjoying her beautiful succulent planter from West Coast Perennial Growers and samples from the Fika soap collection.
Another lucky festival attendee won the “Midsommer Frokost” gift basket contributed by Embla Nordic Inspirations Ltd. to the festival raffle prize draw. The basket contained all the fixings for a breakfast (“frokost” in Norwegian, although that could be confusing as the Danes call lunch the same thing, just to be different) including bamboo tray, placemats, napkins, coffee maker, two Denby coffee mugs, organic blueberry jam, tea, coffee and home-made pulla, which is Finnish cardamom coffee bread, along with candles and flowers for ambience.
The Fika (“coffee break” in Swedish) soap collection, inspired by classic Nordic desserts such as pulla, brunekager, cinnamon bun and tosca cake, and featuring cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, almond and vanilla fragrance was a very popular item this weekend. All soaps are made with shea butter with coconut, olive and almond oil for extra moisturizing. We gave away many samples over the two days and have already received back positive feedback from people who love the soap!
The Viking Traders jewellery collection was very popular with both men and ladies! For the men (and a few ladies, too!), the labradorite and onyx bracelets featuring rune symbol beads were the best-seller. For the ladies, earrings and bracelets featuring lapis, amber, labradorite, carnelian and lava were the most popular. People were amazed that stones can be that sparkly. Labradorite in smaller beads is especially vivid, with the bluish undertones showing the best on the smaller beads. Who needs diamonds? The larger labradorite stones featured in the mens’ bracelets show the more typical greyish-green colour that most people associate with the stone. You can check out the difference in person at our next event!
The purchaser of our 1970’s vintage Norwegian pewter necklace from Tinn-Per was ecstatic as she has been looking for a similar piece for some time. These vintage pieces are one of a kind (usually!) but if you are looking for something particular then we can keep an eye out for the exact piece for you. We had many inquiries about the vintage bronze viking ship that is part of the family collection and was on display at Embla’s table all weekend. It’s not for sale but we are already scouting for a few people who want one for their own family collection.
The response to the Tilbehor accessories collection was very positive. Who doesn’t like to touch soft felted wool? Purchasers were evenly split between smaller purses, larger purses and large totes. With vintage constructed accessories, you always get a custom piece. Our customers love being able to express their unique style with a handbag, tote or purse that is theirs alone!
We are just confirming our next in-person show date and location. Details will be posted soon. In the meantime, our on-line store should be ready within the next few weeks so you can see the full range of products in each of our collections.

See Embla at the Midsummer Festival happening June 22-23, 2019 at the Scandinavian Community Centre, 6540 Thomas St. Burnaby, BC, Canada. In addition to Embla’s Nordic inspired collections of gifts and goods, there will be plenty of Nordic food, music, dancing and even the ever-popular Finnish wife-carrying contest on June 23rd. Come on out to see Michelle and the rest of the Embla team at their booth on the Scandinavian Community Centre site. Michelle is especially excited to present the Viking Traders jewellery collection based upon the archaeological research on what Vikings actually wore as jewellery. Those Vikings traveled everywhere so you may be surprised to see what influences and materials made their way to such northern lands.
